Craft

Materials with Longevity

Noema James sources all fabrics in Ireland, including linen, tweed and merino wool.

There has been a long tradition of using Irish linen. Linen is thick and crisp and will soften with multiple usages. It has weight and movement, which is important when you want a garment to have a structure and a form, not just decoration.

Irish tweed is also made from wool, woven in small mills by techniques largely unchanged for generations, a natural fabric with warmth, structure and durability. It grows old gracefully; a tweed coat after twenty years does not become tattered and torn. It looks considered.

Irish merino wool is different again, finer, softer, with real breathability. It lets a piece like the Nerissa move with the body while holding its shape.

I remain open to sourcing from elsewhere in time. But the standard will not change. A fabric that ages well is a fabric worth choosing.
